So I know I said I would provide pictures of the new rink here in Estevan. But I decided instead to take a quick video instead. That’s the view from the broadcast booth. This is a very nice facility.
The Notre Dame Hounds are warming up as we speak getting ready to face tomorrow’s opponent for the Stars the Melfort Mustangs. La Ronge just finished beating the Weyburn Red Wings by a score of 5-2.
Tonight the Stars face off against a team they haven’t seen yet this season. The Yorkton Terriers have won 6 and lost 6 so far this season. And it’s been a season of streaks. They had lost 4 straight before winning their last 2 games. They are lead by a quartet of offensive stalwarts. Jeremy Johnson, Ryan Sookro, Jamie Vlanich and Zak Majkowski have all hit double digits in points so far this season. It drops off from there though as the next highest point producers have 5. The Terriers have also allowed 7 more goals than they have managed to score. Which is similar to a couple of teams in the Sherwood. The Sherwood has been a little unpredictable so far this season. Every team is capable of beating every team. And it seems as though they are all capable of getting blown out.
The Battlefords Stars haven’t really blown anyone out so far this season. They play tight close games and have been to a shootout a couple of times this season. And that reflects in their goals for and goals against which stand at 35 in both categories. The Stars are 6-4-0-1 on the season and are coming off a loss last time out. The showcase will be interesting for any number of reasons. Including but not limited to what it will do to the Stars record. 8-4-0-1 looks a lot nicer that 6-6-0-1 I think you’d have to agree on that point.
Braeden Johnson, who missed the Nipawin game, is with the team and 100% healthy and ready to go. He will be in the lineup tonight. You would imagine that both goalies will get a game here with the quick turn around. So I would imagine we see Hildebrand tonight and Creech tomorrow. I won’t have too many more roster updates until game time as I haven’t heard anything yet about which players will sit tonight.
That’s about all I need to report at this point. The pregame show is at 4:45 this afternoon with the puck drop at 5 and I hope you join me live on 1050 CJNB in the Battlefords, 102.3 CJNS in Meadow Lake and online anywhere in the world at http://www.cjnb.com
