SJHL Game #52: Battlefords North Stars at Yorkton Terriers

The road trip continues tonight in Yorkton as the North Stars take on the Terriers.

Recent Game:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • Only one regulation loss in their last 9 games. The Terriers have been playing well lately although they have had a couple of slip ups. A shootout loss to Kindersley is the most noticeable game that they should have won. The Terriers hammered Flin Flon and shutout Melfort in their 2 most recent games.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • The North Stars have won back to back games in a shootout. They scored a goal in the third period in La Ronge to force OT and then won in a shootout. The game before on home ice against Estevan? Well that was maybe the most exciting game of the season anywhere in the league.

Who’s Hot:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • Dawson MacAuley. The Terriers have 3 goalies that they rotate through the lineup so MacAuley has only played 5 games since the turn of the year. In those 5 games he has allowed just 5 goals.
  • Jamie Vlanich has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 4 games.
  • The Terriers have scored 20 goals in their last 4 games and the offense has been really spread around.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Tim Rollins. Had a goal and an assist in La Ronge and 3 points in his last 2 games.
  • Graham Hildebrand. Has won his last 5 starts, and in a couple of those his team relied heavily on him at times, and has allowed just a little over 2 goals against per game in that stretch.

Players to Watch:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • The Norish twins. Two good young D men that are a little smaller but move the puck extremely well. Both can skate and if you aren’t careful they will dangle you as well. Fun to watch.
  • Rockwell, Sookro, Vlanich are all players to watch. Why? Cause they are good BC kids.

Battlefords North Stars

  • Braeden Johnson. He’s gonna break out here with a big game sooner rather than later. Maybe it will be tonight? He’s not been scoring at the rate he was earlier in the season. But he is too good to not get it rolling again and he looked a little sharper against La Ronge. If he throws a hit or gets hit early tonight and gets fired up he could get going.

Head to Head:

  • Yorkton 3 @ Battlefords 4 (OT) (Dec 8 2011)
  • Battlefords 3 @ Yorkton 0 (Dec 3 2011)
  • Yorkton 5 @ Battlefords 4 (SO) (Nov 10 2011)
  • Yorkton 2 @ Battlefords 5 (Oct 14 2011)
  • Tatchell and Klassen are both over a point a game against the Terriers this season.
  • How about Robbie Netwon? 4 points in 4 games against Yorkton this season. That’s 4 of Robbie’s 11 points on the season and he did it in 4 games.
  • Ryon Sookro and Tyler Geibel are two guys to watch out for from the Terriers side. They’ve both been good against the Stars so far this season.

Special Teams:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • PP – 24.2 (2nd) PK – 82.3 (4th)

Battlefords North Stars:

  • PP – 19.6 (5th) PK – 80.1 (7th)

Other Notes:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • The Terriers are one of just 3 teams from the Sherwood that have beaten the Stars this year. The others are Weyburn and Kindersley. Yorkton needed a shootout to do it and the other two did it in regulation but it’s still impressive to be a part of that small group.

Battlefords North Stars

  • The North Stars have won 9 of their last 12 and 7 of their last 8. Yet I still think they would tell you they have a lot of room to get better. This team is very much still a work in progress. They want to continue to get better and better.

The Big Stat(s):

  • 12-1. The Stars are 12-1 in games decided by 3 goals. They don’t get blown out very often and they win the 1 goal games, 17-3-0-2 in 1 goal games, but for some reason when there is a 3 goal spread the Stars are on top. Maybe that’s because the coaching staff would prefer 3-0 as their perfect score? I don’t know. But if you look up at the scoreboard and see a 3 goal spread as a Stars fan you should be happy.

Lets hope we dont wait till ten min left in the game to get it going. Also, its just a matter of time before feeney makes an intro that lasts the entire pregame show, with all these last minute goals
