SJHL Game #52: Battlefords North Stars at Melville Millionaires

The Stars will look to bounce back tonight in Melville against a Millionaires team coming off a big win in Weyburn and loaded with talent up front.

Recent Game:

Melville Millionaires:

  • A huge win last night on the road in Weyburn which enabled the Mills to keep pace with Yorkton. Melville will likely be a little disappointed that the Stars weren’t able to beat the Terriers. The Mills have been a little inconsistent of late, 6 wins in their last 10 games, with a recent loss to Melfort on the record.

Battlefords North Stars:

Who’s Hot:

Melville Millionaires:

  • Tyson Newell has a goal and 2 assists in his last 2 games and is the first SJHL D man to reach the 50 point mark on the season.
  • Michael Sagen is also playing well of late with 4 assists in the last 3 games.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Travis Sparrow. His first ever junior goal last night means Sparrow is on this list for the first time this season.
  • Kyle Hall has 3 goals in his last 3 games.

Players to Watch:

Melville Millionaires:

  • Ian McNulty, Russell Trudeau and Jesse Mireau. When they are on their game, healthy and playing together, they could be one of the most dangerous lines in the league. McNulty is always fun to watch.
  • Sean Aschim. If he were healthy he’d be the guy that I would be most interested in seeing. He’s only played 5 games since the deadline when he was re-assigned back from the WHL. He hasn’t been playing of late and I doubt he’s in the lineup tonight. If he is he’s one to watch.

Battlefords North Stars

  • The kid line. They were good again last night drawing a couple penalties and generating some scoring chances. Let’s see if they have another real strong game tonight.

Head to Head:

  • Melville 3 @ Battlefords 4 (OT) (Jan 24 2012)
  • Battlefords 5 @ Melville 2 (Dec 2 2011)
  • Melville 4 @ Battlefords 5 (OT) (Nov 12 2011)
  • Blake Tatchell has 8 points in 3 game against the Mills this season. So does Brody Luhning from the point. Woody Klassen has 6 in those 3 games and Braeden Johnson has 5.
  • Ian McNulty has been the danger man for the Mills in games between these two teams this season. He has 5 points in 3 games. Mireau has 3.

Special Teams:

Melville Millionaires:

  • PP – 22.3 (3rd) PK – 78.8 (9th)

Battlefords North Stars:

  • PP – 19.1 (6th) PK – 79.5 (7th)

The Big Stat(s):

  • 12. The Mills have 12 short handed goals for this season. That leads the league. You have to be alert when on the power play against the Mills and so far this season the Stars have been. They haven’t allowed Melville to score short handed in the 3 games this season between these two teams.
