SJHL Game #54: Battlefords North Stars at Flin Flon Bombers

The Stars will look to bounce back tonight in Flin Flon. The Stars have lost 2 straight and the race for first in the Bauer is in Humboldt’s hands. All the Stars can do now is win out and see what happens.

Recent Game:

Flin Flon Bombers:

  • A huge win two nights ago in Humboldt. The Bombers gave up a third period lead but rebounded well to win in overtime. They haven’t been playing well of late so that’s a big win.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • The North Stars lost two nights ago in Melville. Check the blog for a recap.

Who’s Hot:

Flin Flon Bombers:

  • Brandt Weldon is on fire. He has an 8 game point streak working right now with 7 goals and 4 assists in that span. He’s listed as a D man. So that’s an impressive run.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Klay Kachur. Has been playing very solid hockey, providing leadership as he’s been on a playoff run with Powell River in each of the last two seasons and he has 2 goals in his last 3 games played.

Players to Watch:

Flin Flon Bombers:

  • McCombie is one to watch since he may not be in this league after this season. Storzuk is another fun player to watch when he is healthy.

Battlefords North Stars

  • Roger Tagoona. He has a couple points this season against the Bombers and during that 9-1 loss he was one Star forward who was still competing towards the end of the game.

Head to Head:

  • Flin Flon 3 @ Battlefords 4 (SO) (Jan 3 2012)
  • Flin Flon 9 @ Battlefords 1 (Dec 15 2011)
  • Flin Flon 3 @ Battlefords 1 (Nov 8 2011)
  • Battlefords 5 @ Flin Flon 4 (SO) (Oct 30 2011)
  • Dillon McCombie has 3 goals and 3 assists this season against the North Stars to lead the way for the Bombers. Riley Storzuk has 3 goals and 2 assists in just 2 games this season.
  • Blake Tatchell is the only Star player over a point a game this season against the Bombers. Tim Rollins has been solid with 3 helpers in 3 games played.

Special Teams:

Flin Flon Bombers:

  • PP – 18.0 (9th) PK – 79.0 (9th)

Battlefords North Stars:

  • PP – 18.9 (6th) PK – 79.9 (7th)

The Big Stat(s):

  • 9-1. The most lopsided Stars loss of the season came at the hands of the Bombers. They’ve played since then with the Stars winning in a shootout so I am not sure how much revenge will be in the minds of the North Stars players. But I am sure they’d love to return the favour to the Bombers on their home ice sheet.
