SJHL Playoffs – Bauer Final Game 4: Humboldt Broncos at Battlefords North Stars

The Battlefords North Stars lost game 3 in Humboldt by a score of 7-1. The Broncos now lead the series 3 games to none and with a win tonight would move on to the SJHL finals where they would await the winner of Melville and Weyburn. If the Stars win there will be a game 5 Friday night in Humboldt.

Recent Game:

  • The Stars lost in Humboldt 7-1. The recap of that game is on the blog.

Who’s Hot:

Humboldt Broncos:

  • Robbie Ciolfi. He scored 4 more points last night. 2 goals last night gives him 11 so far in the playoffs. He has more goals, and of course points, than anyone else has points so far in the playoffs. He’s been as elite as it gets so far. He was hit hard a couple times last night and we will see how he responds.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • I don’t really know what to say at this point. I don’t think the Stars have anyone playing their best hockey right now.

Regular Season Head to Head:

  • Regular Season Meetings:
    Battlefords 0 @ Humboldt 1 (Jan 15 2012)
    Humboldt 3 @ Battlefords 2 (Dec 21 2011)

    Humboldt 4 @ Battlefords 6 (Oct 28 2011)
    Battlefords 5 @ Humboldt 4 (Oct 7 2011)
  • Head to Head Leaders:
    Robbie Ciolfi – 5Gp – 4G – 4A – 8PTS
    Andrew Johnston – 6GP – 3G – 5A – 8PTS
    Brett Miller – 6GP – 5A – 1A – 6PTS

    Blake Tatchell – 10GP – 3G – 7A – 10PTS
    Robbie Ciolfi – 7GP – 11G – 4A – 15PTS

Playoff Special Teams:

Humboldt Broncos:

  • PP –  11-31 (35.5%) PK – 30-32 (93.8%)

Battlefords North Stars

  • PP – 5-32 (15.6%) PK – 23-33 (69.7%)

The Big Stat(s):

  • Just about every stat I have looked at shows the Broncos have been dominating the SJHL playoffs. The Stars are in very tough tonight to extend the series. But I guess all you can do is go out and try to find a way to win. Coach Hasselberg said last night that the Stars won’t give up and will work as hard as they’ve worked all season tonight. I hope he is right. I would love to jump on a bud Friday and head to Humboldt.

well i hope you pay attention more tonight in your broadcast, because last night i was getting tired of hearing i did not see it or i dont know or not sure. i thnk if you spent more time watching the game and doing your job instead of tweeting and texting, us fans would have had a better grasp on the game. now mr crowe was saying that tach was basically gooning it up ciofi what was davis doing taking a full 8 strides across the ice and running tach in game 2 and no call. i think the refs need to start calling the games fair like they did when stars played nipawin instead of homering humboldt. if they say good they dont need the help, thus why the players getting frustrated last night it boiled over on the stars and they had enough. so its time the refs get there heads out of there a@@ and start doing what they are payed to do and if they can not be byist then dont do the game. mac and smith have had both run ins with the stars and they still reffing there games and all the players that pissed them off are long gone so who are the mature ones, 2 grown men acting like high school kids, i know they never called a fair game last night because they are unable too. hopefully we get some refs tonight that can do the job. GO STARS GO

    • Well first of all I never text during the play and rarely, if ever, during a broadcast. And I feel updating my twitter feed during the game IS part of my job.

if you say so mike i hope you dont drive and tweet since it so important to make sure everyone knows on twitter what the north stars are doing, that being said its your personal twitter not the north stars so there fore it not part of your job and even if it was, your job first is broadcast not tweeting.

    Good grief you guys…

Well it has looked and it has been the boys against the men all series and tonight I sure hope we see the men against the men…

Come on Stars take’em to at least 5!

Bigger, faster, stronger, outcoached. Easy to see.
Tired of seeing coaches’ darlings constantly on the ice, pp, pk, and no intensity or effort or body contact, stupid penalties, and there right back out there. Live and die by the coach’s sword and we are dying because of it, not even putting up a fight actually. Oh where oh where can our special teams be. Also, we are relying way too much on players attained in trades instead of the players that got us here the first half of the season. 500 hockey team after the mojo was taken from this team.

thanks mike for deleting my post class act that you are move back to BC please we will get a trained chimp to do your job. all you clowns think humboldt all that what happened last night reg and aldy have no clue about hockey apparently never watched the north stars play, humboldt is bigger but thats it all they got and oh yeah way older roster too like i said in my last post if kevin had 30 grand to spend on players be alot different but last nights game proved that humboldt slower, clumsy, weaker and need of some coaching. north stars showed heart and character last night like they did against nipawin and that goes father then skill. oh oh look out pp was working and pk shut down humboldt and allowed 4 shots in the 3rd so if humboldt is so good where they go. i am sure mike will delete this post at some point because the truth hurts.

    • I deleted your post because it contained an insult to another poster. You can disagree with Reg, and I do VERY strongly, but don’t insult people on my blog. And it is MY blog. I’ve spent roughly 80-100 hours of my own time on this blog so far this season and I am proud of it. I don’t get paid for this blog and I don’t do it because I am forced to do it. I write this blog for the fans of this team. So they can feel more connected to the team through me as I am blessed to be able to follow them more closely than a fan is able to follow them.

If you want to continue to participate, and I hope that you do, I would request in future that you don’t insult people or resort to name calling. I would also really like to see some punctuation and grammar in the future as well. If you can’t comply with these wishes I will continue to delete your comments.

If you have a problem with this feel free to email me at or find me at the rink at the next game and we can talk about it then.

you are right and i apologize for the name calling. Living here and talking with people around town and at the rink all the negative talk about the north stars had come to a boil over when reg saidabout humboldt. as far as your plug towards me on my punctuation and grammer is not a positive thing either, some people as myself are not all english majors. instead of deleting my post could have just as well deleted some of the sentences.

    • No need to apologize. I just want to make sure everyone is respectful to each other. Differing opinions are okay as long as they are presented into right way. the criticism of this team and the coaches has bothered me at times this playoffs as well. But they are entitled to that opinion.

Hahaha…well ain’t that the pot calling the kettle black?? You say I have no clue about hockey? I hate to break it to you but I obviously know a lot more about hockey and stringing a sentence together than you do. Perhaps before you go trying to beak someone else on here particularly Mike you should re- read your posts to make sure they make an ounce of sense!

    • Let’s try to limit the “I know more than You” comments please. I know it’s not just you Aldy. I would like everyone to be a bit more respectful to each other. I don’t want this to turn into the SJHL fan forum where people just go to thrown out lame beaks at each other.

aldy you a funny guy but you still dont know anything about hockey you proved that in agreeing with reg. i been a supporter of this team back when they still were called the barons. good for you that you can string a sentence together you want a hero bisquit. now like mike said be respectful, you can not expect a north star fan not to say anything when you and reg agree on something that is not even close to true. mike said on this blog he disagrees with you 2, so thats something you need to think about. time to move on stars play fri night and will be playing sun at home there will be a game 7.
