North Stars wrap up preseason with a loss

The Battlefords North Stars lost 6-4 in Humboldt last night to finish out the preseason schedule. The Stars finish with a 2-3 record in exhibition play.

I was a little late getting to Humboldt last night and missed some of the first period. Dylan Sakatch scored for the North Stars in the first frame. We haven’t talked about him much on the blog but he had a good game last night. Luke McColgan also scored in the first frame.

The Stars looked really good at times in the second frame and got another goal from Sakatch late in the frame to lead 3-2 after 2. Roger Tagoona scored in the third period but the Stars had a rough little 5 minute patch at the start of the period and the Broncos scored 3 times to take a lead 5-4. They would seal it later in the period.

I spoke with Coach Hasselberg after the game. He said they were very pleased with the preseason effort of the players. The reason they were still carrying so many players is because they’ve all been so good. He also said they learned a lot this weekend that they will use to make some very tough decisions.

At some point this week we will get the North Stars official roster for the first game of the season which is Friday night in Kindersley.
