North Stars add depth D man

The Battlefords North Stars made a trade yesterday with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL. The Stars acquired 18 year old defenseman Joren Johnson in exchange for future considerations.

Johnson is a 6’3 195lbs D man who has 48 games of Junior A experience in the BCHL. I had a chance to speak with Smokies broadcaster Chris Wahl and he said Johnson is a solid D man who is at his best when he keeps things simple. Johnson was also described as a very good kid who is well liked by team mates and fans.

I am not sure what the future considerations are at this point but I would guess they involve cash. I am headed to the rink this morning to make a few more player profiles and I will try and find out what the Stars gave up to get Johnson. But with Kyle Schmidt playing well for the Blades and after Cody Bird decided to head back to Wainwright the North Stars have been in need of an addition on the back end.

Johnson will give the North Stars 7 defenseman on the roster and will provide cover in case of injury as well as competition to see who gets in the lineup. Joren is scheduled to arrive in the Battlefords early next week.
