SJHL Game 25: Battlefords North Stars at Yorkton Terriers

The North Stars are 2-0 so far this season against the Yorkton Terriers. But tonight will be the first chance for the Terriers to play host to the North Stars. Yorkton is 10-1 at home so far this season. The Estevan Bruins are the only team to leave Farrell Agencies Arena with a victory.

The Stars have two more games on the road including tonight before a stretch of 14 games where they play at home 10 times. With a 5 game win streak on the line as well it is important for the North Stars to continue playing well. Whether they win or not is less important than the effort they put forth. Consistency is starting to come and if you couple consistency with a stretch of home games the North Stars could really make a move in the standings. But like I said they still have 2 tough road games here in Yorkton and Melville to deal with first.

It starts tonight with Yorkton.

Recent Games:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • The Bombers are coming off their first home loss of the season on Friday night when they lost to Nipawin 5-2. Prior to that the Bombers had started the season with 13 straight home victories. Their road record isn’t great however as they sit at 6-5 so far away from Manitoba.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • The North Stars won a big game over Flin Flon 2-1 at the Civic Center back on Tuesday.

Players to Watch:

Yorkton Terriers:

  • Jeremy Johnson and Patrick Martens. Tied for second on the Terriers with 12 goals each so far this season.
  • Tayler Thompson. With 16 points so far this season in 17 games Thompson is the closest Terrier to a point a game. They get scoring from throughout the lineup. They have 12 players with 10 or more points so far this season.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Jake McMillen. Jake played his midget hockey here in Yorkton so I am sure he wants to have a good game tonight in front of hockey fans who remember him from his days with the Harvest. Plus I am sure some family and friends will be at the game as well.
  • Austin Evans. He has 2 goals in 2 games so far this season against the Yorkton Terriers. He’s been playing well the last few games whether on a line with Hall and Johnson or with McColgan and Young.
  • Ben Greenaway. Lets see how he builds on a strong third period last time out. If Ben continues to play that way, especially physically, he will see an increased role and more ice time. He was outstanding in the final period against Flin Flon. I have a feeling he will be good again tonight.

  • Yorkton 4 @ Battlefords 6 (Nov 4 2012)
