SJHL Game 28: Battlefords North Stars at Melfort Mustangs

The Battlefords North Stars hit the road for their only game this weekend. After tonight the North Stars don’t play again until December 13th. That’s close to a week off and it comes at a good time. The North Stars are a little banged up right now and can use some time to heal up and get healthy. But first they need to find a way to bounce back from a poor effort on Wednesday. They will want to go into the weekend on a strong note.

Recent Games:

  • The Mustangs beat the North Stars 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Civic Center.

Players to Watch:

Melfort Mustangs:

  • Scott Nordstrom. The big D man is always involved in something on the ice and is usually talking to someone on the other team. With back to back games between these two teams we will see if any bad blood develops. Nordstrom would be a guy who is likely to be involved if it does.
  • Jesse Wilkins. Patrick Johnson is going to be the back up in Saskatoon while Blades goalie Andrey Makarov is away at the World Juniors. That means Wilkins will have to carry the load for the next month or so. Wilkins has played in 16 games so far this season and while his numbers are solid they aren’t as good as Johnson’s. This is a big stretch of games for Wilkins.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Jake McMillen. Currently on a 2 game goal scoring streak. McMillen scored the Stars only goal on Wednesday and with it being Teddy Bear Toss night it was a goal that needed to be scored. No one wants to be shutout during that game.
  • Travis Marit. Was one of the North Stars who had a decent game on Wednesday. He’s an ‘AP’ who is trying to make enough of an impression to stick around with this team. He seems like a good kid and he’s the kind of player that is easy to root for.
