SJHL Game 50: Estevan Bruins at Battlefords North Stars

It’s a rare Monday nighter for the North Stars tonight at the Civic Center. The Estevan Bruins are in town for the final matchup this season between these two teams. The Bruins have taken 2 of 3 so far with one game going to overtime.

Last time these two teams met the Stars won 4-1 on the road in Estevan. Kyle Hall collecting a point on all 4 goals. 2 goals and 2 assists for the Stars center. Braeden Johnson had a goal and 2 helpers. Dylan Smith had an assists in that one for the Bruins. He’s red hot scoring since returning to the SJHL.

Recent Games:

Estevan Bruins:

  • Lost 4-2 in Kindersley last night. Dylan Smith picking up a goal and an assist in a losing effort.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Lost 4-3 in a shootout in La Ronge on Saturday night. Tanner Quinn scored again for the Stars. It was a big 3rd period goal to tie the game. Jake McMillen and Kyle Hall also scored.

Players to Watch:

Estevan Bruin:

  • Dylan Smith. Smith has been the SJHL player of the week twice so far in 2013. Has 10 goals and 18 points in 13 games since coming back to the SJ.
  • Curtis Martinu. Carrying the load in goal for the Bs. The last time someone else started in net for Estevan was December 15th.

Battlefords North Stars:

  • Kyle Hall. He scored 4 points last time these two teams met.
  • Brody Luhning. Has just 1 point in his last 6 games. Luhning is too good for that to continue much longer.

  • Josh Betinol and Kyle Hall each have 5 points against the Bruins this season. Hall has done it in 3 games played while Betinol has scored 5 points in just 2 games played. He missed the first encounter this season when he was trying out for the WJAC in Calgary.
