North Stars make a trade

With the North Stars on a losing skid and off to a disapointing start you knew that moves would have to be made. Today the North Stars announced a trade involving a pair of former Midget AAA Stars.

The North Stars sent Alex Bechtold and Spencer Gosselin to Drumheller for the Yew twins Regan and Robin.

We didn’t get a chance to really get to know Alex as he wasn’t here in town for very long. From my interactions with him though he seems to be a very nice young man. He’s an Alberta kid and I know he was happy to be heading back to his home province.

Goose was in his second year with the Stars. A stalwart on D in his rookie season Gosselin has struggled at times this season. He’s also been snakebitten as well. Perhaps it was a good time for Goose to get a fresh start. But he will be missed a lot. Just a great kid to be around. Skilled at both ends of the ice I am sure Gosselin will be a hit in Alberta.

The Stars get the Yew twins in return. Robin is a puck moving D man who will help the Stars offense by getting the puck to the forwards quickly and allowing the Stars to use their speed through the neutral zone. Regan is a big strong center who brings a presence at both ends of the rink. When he is driving the net he can be a real handful. Potential to be a very good two way center in the SJHL.

Both guys played for several seasons with the Midget AAA program here in town so they know this community well. They also played with a couple members of the North Stars including Braden Lacoursiere and Blake Young. They are good kids who are excited to be headed back to Saskatchewan.
